We’re either moving forward or moving backward. Offense or defense. There is no neutral. Yesterday I emceed an event with real estate entrepreneurs and there were some clear themes I pulled out of that day. The gap between those that are winning and those that are not is wide. And widening. Here’s where I am on my observation of that. 3 points
Point one, now is the time for you to take on your dreams and execute. For two reasons. First of all, NOW is all we have. And second, for the most part, the internet has leveled the playing field. The rules of the game have changed and everyone has access to a microphone if they choose to use it. Competition for attention is fierce, but if you have access to the internet, you have access to the world. What are you waiting for?
Point two, run your own race and execute. It’s too easy to get caught up in judgement and comparison. Focus on your game, your race. You have a dream for life, it’s as unique as your fingerprint. Don’t judge the players on the field, especially if you’re shouting from the stands. There is a big group judging and a small group executing. Which are you?
Point three, you’ve got to be relevant now, and now is a very short window. The pace of change is dizzying. If you’re not paying attention to and investing in what’s working now, then you’re going to be irrelevant faster than ever before. Don’t let that scare you, let it motivate you. Back to point one and the internet, you have membership to the global economy. How often are you checking in and working out?
My final point is there seems to be either a nostalgic wishing for what the past once held, or an obsession with predicting an unpredictable future. People who are winning aren’t focused on tomorrow’s lunch or yesterday’s leftovers. While you’re distracted pining away, they are eating your lunch today. What are you going to do about that?
